With Houston being the fourth most populous city in the United States and being full of historical and political significance, it is unsurprising that many famous faces have hailed from the Houston.
Some may even be surprised to see just how many of these recognizable names are from Houston.
Houston has produced many famous families, with siblings and parents and children following similar career paths.
The most famous of these is the Bush family, producing two presidents and a governor for Florida. Whilst the Bush family is full of recognizable names, George H. W. Bush and two of his sons, George W. Bush and Jeb Bush are the most prolific.
92-year-old George Bush Sr. sat in office as the 41st President of the United States, with George Bush Jnr. following suit, becoming the 43rd President of the United States. Jeb Bush is also famous in the political world, becoming the 43rd Governor of Florida, and helping his father and brother on their Presidential campaigns.
Another famous family from Houston is the Knowles family. Two of its daughters going on to rock the global music scene, appear in movies, and becoming well-known faces in the fashion world.
Beyoncé and sister Solange have both had unquestionable musical success, with them becoming the first sisters to ever release US number-one albums within a calendar year. Both have also spoken out about their activism, with particular interests in women’s rights and black rights.
Many actors have originated from Houston, going on to pursue careers in both film and television acting.
The late Patrick Swayze was a Golden Globe winning actor, known for roles in films such as Dirty Dancing, Ghost and Donnie Darko.
Jim Parsons is another well-awarded actor, with a lead role in The Big Bang Theory, and featuring in films including The Muppets and The Big Year.
Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel was born in Houston, before moving to New York to pursue her acting career.
Fashion designer and director, Tom Ford, and director, Wes Anderson, have also become household names in recent years, both being born in Houston before moving across the globe.
Ford has had huge success with his fashion label, and has directed two Oscar-nominated films, whilst Anderson has won many awards for films such as Fantastic Mr Fox and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Sports fans will also be familiar with many Houston natives, with football being a way of life for many Texans.
For example, Michael Strahan was born and studied in Houston, before being taken on to play for the New York Giants for 15 years. But other sports are also well represented by Houston natives, with Mary Lou Retton winning five Olympic medals in gymnastics at the 1984 Los Angeles games, and Ken Bradshaw winning the Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championship.
